Letter from the Director

The Benton County/Camden Chamber of Commerce welcomes you! We are very proud of our county, and we're pleased to share it with you.

Benton County is a great place to live and do business. Recreational activities abound, and along our eastern border, the Tennessee River and Kentucky Lake provide countless hours of enjoyment. Our economic growth is indicative of the economic and community development programs that are active in our communities, and Benton County has received the Governor's Three Star Award for economic preparedness.

Our local Chamber of Commerce works with our county and city officials and civic organizations to ensure that Benton County continues to be a great place to live, work and play. Our quality of life is unrivaled anywhere! We offer the advantages of small town life, but urban areas with all the benefits they provide, are just a short drive away.

Visitors to the county can enjoy a wealth of fascinating one-of-a-kind attractions including a breathtaking new scenic overlook offering a spectacular view of the Tennessee River Valley from high above. The memorial atop Pilot Knob in Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park, also overlooking the beautiful Tennessee River Valley, marks the scene of the historic Battle of Johnsonville. During this battle troops under the command of General Forrest attacked and destroyed a massive Union Army supply depot and sank a number of Union gunboats, barges and transports in the process. It is one of the few times in recorded history that land based forces defeated naval forces.

Visitors can also pay their respects at the memorial at the site of the tragic 1963 plane crash that took the lives of Grand Ole Opry stars Patsy Cline, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Cowboy Copas and their pilot Randy Hughes, or marvel at the beauty of Benton County's famous Fresh Water Pearls, or purchase a supply of world famous Benton County sorghum, or take advantage of our tremendous hunting and fishing opportunities, or take a scenic lakeside drive through some of the most beautiful country around. While you're here you might also want to visit the folklife museum in Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park, or pay a visit to one of the Wildlife Refuge locations in the county. (Did you know that ictheologists have determined that Kentucky Lake hosts one of the largest varieties of fish species of any lake in the country and that the Big Sandy refuge is considered one of the world's premier areas for viewing migratory birds including songbirds, waterfowl and even majestic Bald Eagles?), and you will certainly want to visit one of our many fine restaurants and savor our world famous Tennessee River catfish.

All of this and more awaits you in beautiful Benton County on Kentucky Lake. For further information contact the Chamber at 731-584-8395, toll free at 1-877-584-8395, email chamber1@usit.net, or just click on the Request Information link below.
